The noises coming out of the Pentagon are getting downright creepy, a flashback to previous off-the-shelf strategy plans from the Iraq war. Originally, it was widely reported that the Obama Administration had in mind a “punishment” strike of 50-some-odd missiles against the Syrian government. But now, Pentagon strategists are considering a much longer, three day attack involving a considerable amount of firepower. This is reminiscent of the “Go Big” strategy war planners debated using in Iraq.
The original attack plan was reported to call for 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles. Word is now the Pentagon is considering the direct use of Air Force bombers, as well as far more naval-launched missile volleys from as far away as the Red Sea.
Wellspring of insanity
It’s important to understand the mindset of our so-called “leaders.” The calls for military action are most loudly heard from the “neocon” faction of the American foreign policy establishment. Arguably, the neocons are the most virulent handmaidens to the Military Industrial Complex. The neocon view is now the dominant view within the Obama White House.
With the fall of the Soviet empire, the neocons argued for a Project for a New American Century. The Iraq war was just a starting point. As Retired General Wesley Clark disclosed, the neocons had plans to destabilize into submission or outright attack and overthrow governments in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Sudan, Somalia and Iran. The hubris of these neocons knows no bounds.
Senator John McCain offers a perfect neocon character study – a glimpse into the mind of a veritable Dr. Strangelove. These neocons really do believe the US is so almighty and powerful that “we” can do whatever “we” damn well please, while the rest of the world will not react. Behold, this video speaks for itself:
Senator McCain is not fit for office. Warmongers exhibit poor judgment and, consequently fail to serve America’s long-term best interests.
While we’re on the subject of Senator McCain, please make time for this powerful, revealing video:
This Syrian woman makes unassailable arguments. She speaks truth to power with laser precision. It’s as if her words were like water splashed on the Wicked Witch of the Wizard of Oz; Senator McCain melts as his body language betrays a lack of moral character.
To Bomb Or Not To Bomb: Why Is That The Primary Question?
The Syrian civil-war has been going on for over two years and August 21st wasn’t the first time chemical weapons were used. Chemical weapons were used during a March 19, 2013 attack on the Syrian city of Aleppo.
UN Human rights investigator and former war crimes prosecutor Carla del Ponte reported on Swiss radio on May 5th, “according to the testimonies we have gathered, the rebels have used chemical weapons, making use of sarin gas.” Russian investigation into the same attack points to the same conclusion. Why has the Western mainstream media failed to draw more attention to growing evidence that suggests rebel forces, not the Syrian government, were responsible for the March 19th attack?
Russia is certainly not an unbiased source. But other nations have reported highly suspect activity that needs further investigation. A reputable Turkish media report from June 6th discusses the fact that rebel fighters leaving Syrian territory were intercepted in Turkey carrying a canister of sarin nerve gas. Turkey is a NATO ally, and it is fair to assume American intelligence has been fully briefed about this incident, but virtually no Western media has reported this incident. Why?
The Turkish media report quotes Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov foreshadowing the very “red line” Obama would come to employ:
Russia has called on Turkey to share its findings in the case of Syrian rebels who were seized on the Turkish-Syrian border with a 2kg cylinder full of nerve gas sarin.
Russia’s top foreign official Sergei Lavrov today said the Kremlin wanted to get clear on the issue of chemical weapons used in Syria, since the allegation had taken on the role of a trading card in the conflict, becoming a focus of constant provocations.
“I do not rule out that some force may want to use it [the rumor] to say that the “red line” has been crossed and a foreign intervention is needed,” the minister said.
“We are still waiting on a comprehensive report from our Turkish colleagues,” he added, citing the incident when a gang of terrorists carrying a canister with nerve gas sarin was arrested inside the Turkish territory about two weeks ago.
August 21st: Who’s responsible? Why act before definitive answers are known?
There are serious questions about who was responsible for the August 21st chemical attack. Seasoned journalist Dale Gavlak reported disturbing testimonies from rebels who are fighting the Syrian government. These rebels certainly have no motive to implicate themselves as the responsible party.
In response to Dale Gavlak’s questioning about the August 21st attack, one rebel fighter said, “They didn’t tell us what these arms were or how to use them. We didn’t know they were chemical weapons. We never imagined they were chemical weapons.” Another fighter told Gavlak, “We were very curious about these arms. And unfortunately, some of the fighters handled the weapons improperly and set off the explosions.” Click here to read her entire story.
The Russians have also suggested the attack was a false flag event. Even Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his view that rebel forces, not the Syrian government, were responsible for the attack. At the close of last week’s G-20 meeting, Putin held a press conference and responded to a journalist’s question about Syria. Putin said:
I believe that the so-called use of chemical weapons was a provocation staged by militants, by those who count on external assistance from countries that had supported them from the start. This is what the provocation was targeted at. This is my first point.
Second, I would like to remind you that using force against a sovereign state is only possible in self-defense; but Syria is not attacking the United States. The only other reason for military intervention could be a decision by the UN Security Council. As one of the participants in yesterday’s discussion said, “Those who act otherwise are putting themselves outside the law.” Click here for the official transcript.
Theoretically, it should be possible to match samples taken from bodies or the site of the August 21st attack with existing Syrian government stockpiles. While sarin gas diffuses quickly, residual signatures from the manufacturing process might be able to prove definitively that the gas used indeed came from the Syrian stockpile. Why is the world not demanding this take place? The Syrian government has welcomed UN investigation teams and even requested a UN investigation team to review the March 19th incident.
The Obama Administration has based its case primarily on flimsy signals intelligence (telephone intercepts) and YouTube videos. It is now being reported that even members of Congress privy to classified intelligence briefings state the Obama Administration’s evidence about Syria fails to prove anything.
Given this background, why the rush to war? Why work to pull UN weapons inspectors out of Syria? Why not — as this Syrian woman begged warmonger McCain to do — marshal the United States’ considerable power and latent moral authority to work to reduce conflict in Syria by getting our allies, Saudi Arabia in particular, to stop funding the Syrian rebels and to let the Syrian people deal with the Assad Regime themselves?
It’s pathetic that the world must look toward seasoned diplomat Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov for an example of (at least in this case) true statesman leadership and moral authority. Lavrov proposed that the Syrian government put its chemical weapons arsenal under international control for subsequent destruction. If American “leaders” were truly motivated to reduce the use of chemical weapons, pursuing Lavrov’s idea would be worth at least a two week experiment in diplomacy. Again, this war has been going on for more than two years. Why rush to pour gasoline on a fire that will only end up creating more dead children, while furthering outcomes not in the best interest of the American people?
Our warmonger “leaders” claim “we” must act to preserve life. Hogwash. If the United States was most interested in preserving life and minimizing the possible use of Syrian government chemical weapons, our policies would be anything but what the Obama Administration is advocating. It wasn’t all that long ago that Secretary of State John Kerry argued that President Assad was someone the US could work with. Certainly, Assad is not an idiot. It’s in his best interest to permit inspections if he is not guilty.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. must be rolling in his grave now that President Obama has become the false incarnation of the totality of Dr. King’s dream, a dream that evolved beyond mere race issues.
Wake up, America! Those Fixated on Miley Cyrus Twerking Are the Minority
Warmongering Dr. Strangeloves are attempting to release their love across Syria, based in part on the argument that “we” must not let our enemies believe they can use chemical weapons without consequence. Never mind the fact that should the Syrian regime indeed become destabilized, their huge chemical weapons stockpile may very well fall into the hands of al-Qaeda (over 50% of the current opposition forces in Syria). Once it’s in al-Qaeda’s hands, just where do you think al-Qaeda would like to deploy the stuff? Subway systems in the United States?
Obama, Kerry, McCain — they are all out of their minds! These men have the strategic vision of an afid. Hubris. Nearsightedness. But then, it’s a bonafide fact that American neocon strategy has a soft spot for the strategy of destabilization first, then divide and conquer (or, just influence). It’s the neocon way, patterned after the age-old model of English colonialism and Anglo-American imperialism.
Beware of false flags
While the US remains in posturing mode and before any US attack, the American people must be ready to examine with a skeptical eye any additional chemical weapons attack, or any so-called Syrian Government provocation of size against Israel or the Syrian rebels. With the US itching to make war and eager to justify a military strike, the conditions are ripe for a “false flag” operation.
The pages of history are littered with “false flag” provocations – military actions blamed on the “flag” of another nation or faction so as to dupe the general public into backing war. The Gulf of Tonkin is just one particularly good and absolutely irrefutable example of a “false flag” used to justify war – the US escalation of war on Vietnam. There is reason to be wary of just such a “false flag” event in the days ahead, and the odds of such an event taking place will increase if the Obama Administration fails to win Congressional blessing for war. Even a “false flag” within the United States is not out of the question.
The “Northwoods” document provides incontrovertible proof of one such operation considered by the entire staff of the American military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff. The document is personally signed by General Lyman Lemnitzer, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The first paragraph of the first page of the unclassified document reads: “The Joint Chiefs of Staff have considered the attached Memorandum for the Chief of Operations, Cuba Project, which responds to a request of that office for brief but precise description of pretexts which would provide justification for US military intervention in Cuba.”
The document notes, “We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami Area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at Cuban refugees seeking haven in the United States.” The document states, “We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute to Florida (real or simulated).” With an echo from history, these military “leaders” noted a “‘Remember the Maine’ incident could be arranged in several forms,” detailing how a US ship could be blown up in Guantanamo Bay and other black-op false flags.
You have to read the document for yourself. These pretexts and many others would be blamed on Cuba. “Casualty lists in US newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation” – helpful in that it would facilitate a military strike on Cuba.
Thankfully, John F. Kennedy and other, more sane minds – real leaders – prevented that plan from moving forward. Sadly, the neocons we face today share some of the same zest for first-use military action as the cold war warriors of the 1960s.
What Can We Do?
Dear reader, pray that your fellow sleeping Americans awake from their slumber — and then, get off your butt and help make that happen. Stop being paranoid about the NSA and big government. This is supposedly the land of the free and the home of the brave. “They’re” building a nascent police state because YOU — all of us — scare the bejesus out of “them.” You have the power — for now, but not forever. Dear America, AWAKE! If you continue to sleep, America may one day become the hell of Stasi East Germany. We are much closer than most are aware.
If only 10% to 20% of the country started acting free and brave, massive change would result. Speak to your friends and relatives. Use the internet to learn and to teach others. Join groups that reflect your values. There is power in numbers. Do something – anything. Your life and the lives of all our children most certainly hang in the balance. That’s not hyperbole. While this potential conflagration in Syria may not lead to world war, with all of war’s unintended consequences, it nevertheless increases the probability of outcomes that seriously damage America’s standing and moral authority. That, in turn will hasten the demise of our economic power and impact the quality of life of the entire upper-middle class on down.
Just this past week, while the orgy of media coverage focused on war, the real formal agenda of the G-20 meeting went virtually unreported. The BRICS nations are working towards the eventual replacement of the US dollar as the world reserve and trade settlement currency. The further American “leaders” squander the moral authority that was once America’s foremost source of geostrategic power (albeit with flaws and contradictions), the faster the demise of the dollar’s power will come, leading to a 30% reduction of the American standard of living, bare minimum.
You don’t think politics and these warmongers have a direct impact on you? Think again. There’s no where to hide other than by joining your fellow Americans who have already awoken and are standing together. This is your only true avenue towards safety and the pursuit of your best interests. So long as the sleeping giant that is the American people remains silent, our “leaders” will continue to represent the military industrial complex, international bankers and an oligarchy that sees you as nothing more than livestock.
Our politicians are followers, not leaders. When the people speak in large enough numbers (10 to 20 percent of the population), change happens. That’s documented historical fact. Anyone arguing to the contrary is either ignorant or has an agenda contrary to your best interests.
